Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle is retiring - finally. Pelle has been elected sheriff five times, with the last three 4-year terms coming after voters specifically extended the 2-term limit for the office. With 16 Niwot businesses participating, the Niwot Business Association's inaugural Tannenbaum Charity Trail silent auction raised almost $2,000 for various charities. Regional Transportation District (RTD) customers didn't have to pay to ride buses and trains for the month of August as part of the Zero Fare for Better Air initiative. The initiative was part of the Colorado's Ozone Season Free Transit Grant Program, in which many transit organizations throughout Colorado participated. Construction has begun on the Monarch Improvement Project, which will bring a permanent building to Hangge Fields at Monarch Park for the first time in the 35 years the ballfields have been in use.
