  • Two tough matches to start season for Niwot girls tennis

    Chris Teta|Mar 15, 2023

Non-league opening losses to Fairview High School and Valor Christian High School ought to have flushed out any early season jitters for perennially strong Niwot High School girls varsity tennis. Going into the season's first conference match against Skyline High School at home this week, coach Aimee Hites is confident her team will have what it takes to compete. It begins with numbers and Niwot saw 60 girls come out for tennis this spring. That's the most ever, according to the long-time Niwot...

  • Niwot's first boys volleyball team sweeps Mountain View to go 2-0 on season

    Chris Teta|Mar 15, 2023

Undefeated after two matches, Niwot, the St.Vrain School District's first-ever boys volleyball team, is looking like the kind of powerhouse possible when the talents of all seven of the district's high schools are combined. Indeed, the "Niwot" portion of the varsity team has just one player who attends Niwot High School: senior, middle blocker, and Student Athlete of the Week Jack Klein, (14). "We start practice an hour later than other sports in order to give the boys time to travel here from...

  • Niwot Historic District marks 30-year anniversary

    Bruce Warren and Chris Teta|Mar 8, 2023

Halfway between Boulder and Longmont lies the charming, unincorporated little "whistlestop" town of Niwot. The "small town with a big heart" was platted in 1875, but never incorporated. Today, Niwot is home to a unique commercial downtown district that is primarily located along two blocks of 2nd Avenue, with the "first block" located between Murray and Franklin streets, and the "second block" between Franklin Street and its intersection with Niwot Road. For many years this modest "downtown"...

"Rose (Pacheco) got in foul trouble early making it really difficult to get an offense going," Hill said. Fortunately the...

    Chris Teta|Feb 15, 2023

Revised and improved architectural renderings for a two-story, commercial structure that would house Niles Dentistry were approved at a Niwot Design Review Committee meeting Feb. 8. Chairman Bruce Larsen opened the meeting, explaining that this hearing was simply to review changes to the design of the proposed building, and would not address issues such as parking. Committee members Kathy Koehler, Will Hentschel and Satir DeMarco as well as Boulder County planners were also in attendance, as...

  • NHS girls varsity basketball falls to Mountain View 57-21

    Chris Teta|Feb 15, 2023

Despite the support of a large home crowd that came out Feb. 9 for the Niwot High School varsity girls basketball game, and the team's flashes of moxie and grit, Niwot coach Jon Hill's young varsity squad succumbed to a disciplined Mountain View High School team that jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and never trailed. The Mountain Lions' balanced attack had three double-digit scorers and used a smothering, pressure defense, challenging the Cougars in the backcourt by posting 20 steals and making...

  • NHS girls hoops nets 3rd win vs. Skyline

    Chris Teta|Feb 8, 2023

Showing great poise and determination, Niwot High School's young varsity girls basketball squad picked up its third win of the season on Feb. 2 with a hard-fought 41-31 victory over cross-town rival Skyline High School. The Cougars suffered two lop-sided losses in their other two games last week, losing to Severance High School, 75-13, and to Thompson Valley High School, 60-14. Chris Teta|Jan 25, 2023

A young group of mostly sophomore Niwot High School girls picked up just their second basketball win of the season in Tuesday's home matchup with visiting Fort Morgan High School. The convincing 53-23 score against the winless Mustangs had to have provided a boost of confidence going into Saturday's matchup with Northridge High School in Greeley. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to overcome a strong Northridge onslaught, with the Cougars on the short end of the 55-37 final score. With just two...

First-year coach Tony Engel stepped in to take over for Daisha Agho, and took Niwot High School's girls volleyball team to State, finishing 21-9 on the season and 10-1 in league play. That record doesn't show that five of those nine losses came against just two very strong Windsor High School and Thompson Valley High School teams. Engel's daughter, junior Addison Engel led the charge. Named 2nd team all-state at middle blocker, Addison recorded an impressive season statistically and was named Lo...
