It was well below freezing Friday night when a somber crowd gathered at the Niwot Children's Park. People huddled under the canopy near the reading tree, some had flowers, others were passing out candles. They had gathered to celebrate the life of Peter Guthrie Bonn-Elchoness. Eugene (Gene) Mason Parker of Gunbarrel died October 29, 2022, at age 92. Gene was often seen at Rock & Rails concerts during the summer, as well as throughout events in Boulder, Niwot and Gunbarrel. The Heatherwood community park was renamed Parker Park in 2021 in honor of Gene and his wife Denise. Bug's Eye View The building may be small, but Niwot artist Denise Chamberlain has transformed it into a colossal piece of public art. The new mural called "Bug's Eye View" wraps around the entire front and southern side of 291 2nd Avenue, the former location of Niwot Rental and Feed. On Nov. 9, it was reported that Democrat Tracey Bernett won in a landslide to continue to serve as the state representative of House District 12, which includes Niwot, Louisville, Lafayette and Superior. Proposition 6C to form a library district in Boulder and beyond passed with 53.20% of the votes cast. The district will improve library services in Boulder County and provide funding for a new library branch in Gunbarrel according to the Boulder Library Champions.
