  • Honoring veterans in Niwot

    Kristin Alger|Nov 2, 2022

With a beautiful fall and another Great Pumpkin Party behind us, Niwot prepares to honor military veterans with banners along 2nd Avenue and in Cottonwood Square and with a ceremony at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6. Although "a picture is worth 1,000 words," the stories behind the banners are worth even more. They tell the stories of military men and women with Niwot connections serving all over the globe from World War I until present day. A few of their stories are below. Burton Gale Bergeson,...

  • SVVSD approves Sheriff's request for rifle storage at NHS

    Bruce Warren|Nov 2, 2022

A request from the Boulder County Sheriff to store long rifles inside Niwot High School and Lyons Middle-Senior High School was approved by the St. Vrain Valley School District School Board at its Oct. 26 meeting. The request was first presented in 2018 out of belief that longer response times to Niwot High School and Lyons High School by law enforcement in the event of an active shooter incident would be mitigated if school resource officers had access to rifles securely stored in the school building. The request was not approved at that...

A fun, treat-filled Great Pumpkin Party was had by all on Saturday.. With one of the most beautiful and temperate fall seasons in many years, people turned out in huge numbers this year. Folks worried about Covid and crowds seemed a distant memory. The sun was blasting and families with their candy scavengers in tow, and others being dragged to and fro by their costume-decorated dogs, were all wearing huge smiles as they walked through town to attend the various activities. Along with all of...

    Jack Carlough|Nov 2, 2022

Digesting his No. 2 singles state individuals tournament semifinals loss hasn't been easy, but Niwot boys tennis junior LiChen Liao is surrounded by a support system which should help him return next season with a vengeance. Liao, who won the No. 2 singles title last year, said that his No. 1 singles teammate, senior Luke Weber, was there for him following his 6-1, 6-2 loss to Kent Denver's Will Moldenhauer at City Park in Pueblo on Oct. 14. Weber had a similar experience last season when he...

Shefali Joshi has an earnest curiosity about the world which lights up her face when she talks about her studies and her plans for the future. This curiosity led the Niwot High School sophomore to take an introductory course in Python programming, switch her foreign language requirement from Spanish to French, and take classes in industrial design at The Innovation Center of St. Vrain Valley Schools. It was Joshi's enthusiasm for her studies that led Crystal Hinds, Art Educator at Niwot High Sch...

Niwot hosted the game under the lights on the new turf at NHS, and fans were not quite sure where to sit as both teams feature green as the school colors. Jack Carlough|Nov 2, 2022

Admittedly, LiChen Liao wasn't pleased with the results in the Class 4A boys individual state tennis tournament. But with a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Kent Denver's Will Moldenhauer, Liao's repeat attempt fell short in the semifinals at City Park in Pueblo on Oct. 14. The Niwot High School No. 2 singles player remained proud, though, knowing his full effort was given. "Obviously, I was hoping...
