All Local, All The Time

Soup, Soup & More returns to NUMC

Soup, Soup & More, a community favorite event, returns to Niwot United Methodist Church at 7405 Lookout Road in Gunbarrel on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 4 - 7 p.m.

The event has been a community favorite for 27 years because there is no set entry price, patrons always run into someone they know, and it provides an easy opportunity for fellowship. Donations are welcome, and there are over 20 different types of hot soup presented along with drinks, salads, bread and dessert to enjoy.

Repeat attendees return year after year, they say, because they love the soup and the sense of community, and giving donations to worthy local charities makes them feel good.

Janet Gates, the event coordinator, said that this year's donations will be split 50/50 between the Reentry Initiative in Longmont, which provides help for the formerly incarcerated to drive down recidivism, and the church's technology fund, which is aimed to help the church get a much-needed update to its sound and video system.

It is particularly poignant to Gates that one of the donation recipients is the Reentry Initiative because her best friend and mentor, Deb Simmons, who helped found the Reentry Initiative program with her husband Wayne in 2016, passed away just a week ago after a long and valiant fight with pancreatic cancer.

More information can be found here on the church's website.
