Local residents Jerry and Marsha Slepicka will be hosting the Fourth Annual Slepicka Tractor Collection Show on Saturday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The public event, sponsored by the Niwot Community Association, will be hosted at the Slepicka family farm at 6675 N. 79th Street.
The Slepicka family members, including sons Jessie and Brandon, have been residents in Niwot for over thirty years, having bought their property in 1989. Since then, the family has been heavily involved in the local community.
The family possesses over 40 restored tractors and dozens of hit-and-miss engines. This year's show will display over 21 full-sized tractors, 12 Gibson tractors, 20 hit-and-miss engines, along with 14 small engines and a variety of horse–drawn equipment from the Slepicka collection and various other Niwot homesteads.
The event is free, open to the public, and family-friendly. Last year, the family was proud to say that their tractor show attracted over 600 guests, and they will now host more equipment, including a vintage rock crusher.
For Jerry Slepicka, the show represents a way to preserve and retell important local history. "Niwot and surrounding Colorado communities were built on two things, farming and mining," he said. To Slepicka, the addition of the rock crusher to their show allows the family to better educate guests, especially children, about the history of their town, county, and state.
"Another essential aspect of our showcase is that we have a whole bunch of Gibson tractors," he said. "In the 1946-1963 period, the Gibson tractor plant was based out of Longmont." Now, the Slepickas own the largest collection of Gibson tractors in Colorado. The tractors were only manufactured in Longmont and Seattle.
The Slepicka family welcomes everyone to come to their Tractor Show on June 14. Children are encouraged to come climb and explore the vehicles, and there will be popsicles and other refreshments throughout the afternoon.
The Slepickas and other farmers will be there to teach guests about an important part of rural Boulder County and Niwot community history.
