All Local, All The Time

Looking for a new Community Connection?

The Niwot Community Connection is a new organization designed to help people ages 50 and over make new friends. The organization was founded by local residents Eve Lempriere, Pat Murphy and Dawn Server. They believed the community was in need of a social outlet due to the pandemic, with more people moving into town and many older adults struggling to make new friends after their kids have left the nest.

The organization meets the second Thursday of the month at the Left Hand Grange in Niwot. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 10, 10 - 11:30 a.m. with the following meeting on March 10. Refreshments will be provided and masks are required.

Two guest speakers will be attending. Michelle White, the Community Outreach Coordinator from Mountain View Fire Rescue, will provide insight on what you can do ahead of time to protect your home and loved ones from a fire, and Joey Terranova, a certified Trusted Risk Advisor at First American Insurance, will speak on how to evaluate the insurance coverage on your dwelling.

If you are interested in joining the organization, send an email to [email protected]. You will receive a survey asking what neighborhood you live in, how long you've been a Niwot resident, and your hobbies and interests.

There are over two dozen social activity groups you can join, including painting, cooking, photography, hiking, cycling, dancing, reading, writing, bridge, Tai Chi, crafting, scrapbooking, knitting, and much more. One hundred and thirty eight members have already joined, so you're bound to find other Niwot residents with similar interests. You can also stay updated with the organization on their private Facebook page, once you're officially a member.

Community Connection also organizes Thirsty Third Thursday, where members meet on the third Thursday of every month to go bar-hopping. On Feb. 17, members will be going to the Wheel House, located at 101 2nd Avenue in Niwot at 3 p.m.

It's hard to make friends these days, so Winot grab a drink and find a group?
