  • Former Colterra property under construction

    Bruce Warren|Oct 25, 2023

A fire at Colterra, a French restaurant at 210 Franklin Street in Niwot, led to the closure of the popular high-end restaurant in October, 2018. Now, five years later, the iconic property is finally being redeveloped. Restaurateur Bradford Heap, who transformed the previous restaurant known as Le Chantecler into Colterra, faced with the prospect of bringing the damaged building up to current code, ended up selling the property to Boulder developer Terry Palmos for $625,000 in September 2019,...

  • Let's Talk About...Halloween

    Elise S. Marylander|Oct 25, 2023

Ok. Halloween is looming. It’s the first holiday wave. Undoubtedly, some of you have been buying and eating candy since Labor Day. Many have been making costumes, buying costumes or just thinking about costumes for weeks. Those messy pumpkins have been carefully carved. It is a big deal for all the kids (and adults) to go trick or treating and bring home all that loot just to consume it all in one big tummy ache. But let’s review. Halloween is not for everyone. Basically, people fall into two...

  • Book review: "Dora–Doreen"

    Hannah Stewart|Oct 25, 2023

My mother teases me that I don’t cry during movies—whether feel-good ones or purposefully sad ones. “You didn’t even cry during “Toy Story!” she’ll joke. For the record, readers, I did shed a few tears when Andy donated Woody, Buzz and the gang to that little girl. But she isn’t entirely wrong, I don’t cry with movies or books very often at all. So it was a surprise to find myself with massive crocodile-tears rolling down my cheeks upon finishing “Dora–Doreen,” by Sophia Tova Stone. It was even...

The committee was organized by Vicky Dorvee, and included Selene Luna, Deb Fowler, Karen Edwards, Kamla Chopra, and Biff Warren. Jack Carlough|Oct 25, 2023

After battling COVID-19 earlier in the month, Niwot High School cross country senior Olivia Alessandrini was unsure how well she’d run at regionals on Oct. 19. Her stamina was still in recovery mode, and because the North Area Athletic Complex in Arvada is no easy course, she wasn’t exactly confident heading into the meet. Regardless, Alessandrini embraced the challenge and completed the 5,000-meter race with a personal best time (at altitude) of 17 minutes, 49 seconds. Alessandrini’s confi...

The Cougars started the game on offense, but quickly fizzled out, punting after three plays. Mead returned the punt into Niwot's red zone where Niwot quickly forced a...

Though the season isn't yet completed and the Cougars are now starting postseason, the underclassmen carried forward the tradition of decorating the gym for the veteran players. The Niwot High gym was decked out in pink for the victory against Riverdale Ridge...

Now, there’s nothing left for the runners to do but lace up their shoes and run for their ultimate goal . . . a 4A state championship trophy.
