  • Letter to the Editor

    Feb 21, 2024

Dear Editor, My name is Nikola Podolefsky. I am ten years old and attending fourth grade at Niwot Elementary. My school district does not let students have snow days anymore, but instead forces us to attend online meetings through WebEx. I have written this article to help people understand why this is so hard for students, and so that maybe this will change. Why Snow Days Should Come Back “Mom! Mom! It’s snowing! Get the sled!” “No, get your iPad, Online Learning Day.” St. Vrain has decided that all snow days should be spent attending...

  • Let's Talk About...Lost and Found

    Elise S. Marylander|Feb 21, 2024

Ok. We have all misplaced something at times. Well, some might say "lost" something. One term is just more hopeful than the other. You can't find your keys. You can't find your wallet. You can't find your purse. But are they really "lost," or are they just not yet "found?" Recently, I couldn't find my glasses. I knew I had them the night before. I looked in the car, both under the seats and between the seats. I emptied my purse three times. I looked in every room and retraced my steps. It was...

Philly Cheesesteak Variations Philly Cheesesteak, or as most like to say, simply "Cheesesteak," may have originated in Philadelphia, but it has taken on a life of its own. The flavor of thinly sliced steak, caramelized onions, peppers and provolone cheese (or other cheeses) resonates in many mediums. Here are a few variations on this comfort food theme for you to enjoy. Traditional Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich Adapted from House of Nash Eats

    Joan Schaefer|Feb 21, 2024

Not much, according to Niwot resident Lamar "Dewey" Parker. Parker was raised in northern Utah and describes his childhood as "idyllic in many respects." However, there were difficulties within his family and his parents divorced when he was 12 years old. After the divorce his mother's financial resources were limited. Parker began...

    Gene Hayworth|Feb 21, 2024

At the beginning of the 2023 school year, Niwot High School freshman Olivia "Liv" Raichart was working on a large landscape painting for a school project. She was in the hallway because the canvas was so big it would not fit in the classroom. Suddenly another young woman came out of the classroom crying, and Raichart wanted to help. • Student Athlete of the Week Rohit Das

    Jack Carlough|Feb 21, 2024

Rohit Das wasn't exactly left satisfied with how his junior season played out on the Niwot High School boys basketball team. Yes, he enjoyed several strong moments, but the Cougars' final record of 7-16 weighs heavy. "It was up and down, and it was a little bit disappointing," the junior point guard said. "I thought we could have won a lot more games. But our team was young, so it'll be fun next year." Das did, however, play a key role in Niwot winning three of its final four games. At Mountain...
