RTD closes Niwot Park-n-Ride and bus stops at Hwy 52

On Sept. 18, 2024, the Regional Transportation District (RTD) announced the temporary closure of the Niwot Park-n-Ride until May 2027 and the permanent closure of the north and south bound CO 119 bus stops at CO 52.

The permanent closures at CO 52 are to allow the reconstruction of the intersection of CO 52 and CO 119 that will include new Bus Rapid Transit bus platforms and access to the new bikeway that is to be constructed through the median of CO 119.

Inquiries to RTD as to why these areas need to be closed for the entire multi-year project life without contingency plans for alternatives were met with the response that alternative stops are "not warranted at this location due to lack of available ADA (Americans for Disability Act) compliant stop locations. The next closest bus stops served by the BOLT bus are at 63rd Street to the south of CO 52 and Monarch or Niwot [Road] to the north."

Not addressed was what riders are expected to do about the loss of parking at the Park-n-Ride.

Niwot residents may note that they may make use of the parking lot on Murray Street as a local alternative, which is located approximately six blocks from the closed Park-n-Ride.
