Prok sisters lead Niwot track and field at Centaurus Twilight

Niwot High School track and field sisters Anna and Mia Prok both impressed at the Centaurus Twilight meet on Friday, April 19 in Lafayette.

Anna, a sophomore, took first in the mile with a time of 5 minutes, 6.77 seconds, about seven seconds faster than her teammate and second-place finisher Elise Hagen. Mia, a senior, also topped the two-mile podium after crossing the finish line in under 11 minutes at 10:59.15. Additionally, the elder Prok had seventh-place results in the 200 and 400-meter races.

With the help of those two and several others, the Niwot girls placed first in the team standings with 156 points. The Niwot boys fared well, too, but finished second behind Longmont High School.

On the girls’ side, Niwot’s other individual first-place results came courtesy of juniors Jade West (shot put), Reese Kasper (400-meter), and senior Chloe Mitchell (discus). Niwot also won the 4x200-meter relay and the 800 sprint medley.

Other Niwot athletes who had strong days included senior Julia Rudolph (second-place, 800), freshman Stella Priest (second, triple jump), junior Eliana Henriques (third, long jump), junior Kate Schmidthuber (fourth, 200), senior Olivia Alessandrini (fourth, 800), and senior Sarah Perkins (fourth, one-mile).

Sophomore Ryder Keeton was the lone Niwot boy with a first-place finish, leading the two-mile at 9:32.30. He also took sixth in the 800 at 2:01.64.

Despite only one athlete taking gold, the Cougar boys produced multiple other top-three finishes. In the mile, juniors Cole Mazurana and Kye Toothaker placed second and third, respectively, senior Nico Kemp had a third-place heave of 42 feet, 10 inches in the shot put, junior Gavin Engtrakul was third in the two-mile and senior Mats Lehan was runner-up in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles.

Juniors Santiago Nahas and James Anthony finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400, junior Lincoln Brewer was fifth in the 800, sophomore Kingston Staton took fourth in the long jump, junior Tanner Cole was fifth in the pole vault, and Evan Kear took fourth in the mile.
