All Local, All The Time

One on One goes Higher & Higher

Dressed in white suits, with finely choreographed dance moves, the musicians of One on One made the music come alive at Rock & Rails Aug. 10.

Although the early afternoon began with a light shower, by the 5 p.m. start time, the rain had stopped, the wind died down and the sun was out. Singer-songwriter Megan Burtt opened the evening with her guitar and vocal artistry as the crowd gathered.

One on One's setlist, featuring the best of Motown, had the crowd singing along. Early in the evening the crowd was rocking to a spot-on cover of the Four Tops' hit "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)."

The popular group later sang covers of The Temptations' hit, "Get Ready," and Mary Wells' "My Guy," and also performed David Bowie's "Let's Dance" as well as Earth, Wind & Fire's "September."

The evening ended with a rendition of Jackie Wilson's "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher & Higher," which left the crowd lingering for more. One dancer said, "I know every word."

The tip jar recipients for the evening included The Mwebaza Foundation. Former Niwot Elementary School first-grade teacher Dale Peterson, who founded the non-profit in 2007 by partnering with a teacher from a school in Africa, was on hand for the evening greeting patrons, including some of his former first-grade students.

Peterson was joined by Executive Director Devaki Douillard, who described the mission of the organization to the crowd during the band's break.

The Niwot Children's Park also shared the tips from the crowd, which totaled over $2,150. Maintenance of the Children's Park, which averages $14,000 annually, is funded by the Niwot Cultural Arts Associations's net revenues from Rock & Rails along with donations from patrons of the park.
