All Local, All The Time
Niwot real estate agent Pat Murphy has been putting on an Easter Egg Hunt for so long she now sees second-generation participants.
The event, originated by Murphy over 40 years ago, and now sponsored by the Niwot Business Association, was Murphy's way of connecting the community and bringing joy to Niwot-area children. It has grown over the years to the point that Murphy recently had to ask Niwot Business Association members not to promote the event on social media or in newsletters to out of towners, in an effort to keep it local.
The event starts at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, at Niwot High School, with the annual pancake breakfast, which ends at 11 a.m.
"The Niwot Community Connection is hosting the pancake breakfast this year," Murphy said. Volunteers from Niwot's newest community organization, which helps seniors connect with each other and with the community, will cook and serve pancakes at the school cafeteria. Net proceeds will go towards planting trees in Niwot to replace some of the older trees which have recently died.
At 10:00 a.m. the Easter Egg Hunt begins, with youngsters divided by age groups. Children who find golden eggs can turn them in for prizes. Children should bring a basket to collect eggs.
The festivities also include music by Eddie Spaghetti, and entertainment by the ever-popular Sami Ann the Clown.
The Easter Bunny has also arranged for some furry friends to attend as part of a petting zoo, where youngsters can interact with animals they may not encounter on an everyday basis.
