All Local, All The Time

Vintage Niwot welcomes A Few of a Kind Vintage + Mercantile

Niwot's 2nd Avenue is now home to a new boutique. Originally started in 2019 and operating out of another boutique in Loveland, A Few of a Kind Vintage + Mercantile has opened its doors to provide residents with unique gifts and vintage goods.

"I'm a thing finder," said founder Angie Miltersen. "I seek out and find well-loved objects that offer a story and add beauty to your home."

While Miltersen does not live in Niwot, she worked at Rocky Mountain Christian Academy and is friends with fellow business owners in town. So, when she outgrew her space in Loveland and heard of the opportunity to move to Niwot, she jumped at the chance.

In a mixed bag of fate, Milterson received her shop's keys in May, in the midst of the COVID pandemic. However, with various businesses out of commission for health reasons, she and her husband were able to set up shop quietly and without stress.

"It [COVID] definitely helped the prepping process...I wasn't able to go out and get the [new] goods in, but I got the space all ready," Miltersen said. "Within the last couple of weeks, I've been able to go out there and get some stuff... It's slow, but it's coming back around."

Much of Few of a Kind's merchandise comes from various estate and barn sales. However, Miltersen also sources from various markets both within and beyond Colorado, supporting small-batch artisanal makers. For her, this helps to promote and stimulate local experience, which helps to give back to the community.

However, not only do her suppliers and treasure hunts support local business, but because she picks out items with a story, it makes each item unique in its own way.

"I believe in intentional gift giving...My goal is that, hopefully, you could come in and there will be new things; it will be ever changing."

Her belief in intentional sourcing and gift-giving also seems to extend to the way she has set up the store. As a fan of in-person shopping, she wants to create beautiful atmospheres for shoppers and inspire them.

Since it opened on June 5, Few of a Kind boasts products as diverse as candles and candies, to other items such as cast-iron cleaner and dog bandanas. In the future, Miltersen hopes to add custom invitations and other items that make use of her graphic design career.

"I'm happy with where things are... I took a big jump from a small space to a larger space, and I'm happy to see where that goes."
