Spotlight on mothers and daughters

Michelle Welsh, an American Family Insurance agent for 31 years, was recently recognized for providing outstanding customer service under the American Star Excellence in Customer Experience Certification Program. This doesn’t mean she is above giving a leg up to younger, less experienced agents, especially when that agent is her own daughter, Brie Welsh.

Brie has been an independent American Family Insurance agent for two years and enjoys the proximity to her more experienced mom since they share the office space at the Homestead in Gunbarrel. Michelle is obviously proud of her daughter, who has a child of her own and is managing a career. She beams with pride when she admits she eavesdrops on her daughter’s conversations with clients and hears the confidence, professionalism, and knowledge Brie exudes. When asked if there is a downside, Michelle laughingly remarks, “Well, I still pack her lunch.”

For her part, Brie appreciates access to her mom’s staff as a resource for her fledgling business. The office staff works well together and are always available for advice and support. Brie is especially thankful for the role model she had growing up. Insurance agents can set their own schedules and work remotely, thanks to technology, to create a balanced home and work life.

As a modern working mother, Brie has found the flexibility and security needed to succeed, and she credits her mom for demonstrating that option. When asked about their plans for Mother’s Day, the pair excitedly pronounced plans for a family picnic with spouses, offspring and relatives at Lake Valley.
