Sunset Middle School has International Baccalaureate verification visit

On Thursday, November 3 and Friday, November 4, Sunset Middle School welcomed its long-awaited Verification Visit from the IB (International Baccalaureate).

The purpose of this visit was to celebrate the work done by staff and students to implement the IB’s Programme standards and practices. The staff has collectively spent almost 900 hours training to become IB teachers.

During the visit, the IB team met with all Sunset staff, a group of students, a group of parents and the IB Leadership team. Additionally, they spent time with representatives from the superintendent’s office and several members of the St. Vrain Valley School Board.

This visit is an important milestone in meeting Sunset’s goal to become an IB Middle School. Sunset’s Principal Dawn Macy said, “In my 21 years of experience at Sunset Middle School, the journey our school has made towards becoming an IB Middle Years Programme has been the most rewarding investment for our students. The depth, richness, and challenge we offer every one of our students provides exceptional benefits to our entire community.”

Now that the visit has been completed, the IB team provides a written report to the regional IB office. This office will use this report in conjunction with other documentation to make a recommendation to the IB director general at the International Baccalaureate headquarters. A final decision on authorization will be made by that office. Sunset should receive a decision within 90-120 days from the date of the visit.
