The Erie High School Tigers varsity lacrosse team played Fairview High School at home April 23, but came away with a tough loss with a score of 12-7. The Tigers are a district team with players from several high schools including Niwot High School.
It was a competitive game from the beginning, with both teams trading goals before Fairview took over in the third quarter with a 5-goal run.
Erie’s leading scorer, Cooper Riley has 18 goals on the season. Erie had several strong individual performances, especially from goalie Luke Foley and midfielder Tyler Keating.
Keating’s work in the midfield gave Erie multiple rebounds and kept the Tigers within reach early in the game. In goal, Erie’s Foley once again showed why he is one of the most reliable goalies in the state.
Fairview entered the game averaging 12.2 goals per game, hitting their mark exactly. On the other hand, Erie is averaging 7.7 goals per game on the season.
The Chivukula brothers also contributed to Erie’s effort. Tyler Chivukula, a senior at Niwot High School, has been a key contributor to his team’s success, scoring two goals against Fairview. Drake Chivukula, a talented sophomore, is playing alongside his brother. As of April 24, Drake has scored 15 goals in 12 games, averaging 1.3 goals per game, and has recorded 14 assists. In the loss to Fairview, he had one shot on goal, two ground balls and three assists.
Marcus Vock, a senior at Niwot High School and captain of the Erie lacrosse team, had one shot on goal against Fairview.
