Niwot High School volleyball wins Raiders Classic Tournament, ending the week 7-0

The Niwot High School boys volleyball team has continued an impressive season with another stand-out week. Niwot went 3-0 in league games last week, taking victories against Riverdale Ridge High School, Greeley Central High School, and Centaurus High School.

Niwot also took home a first-place finish in this weekend's Raiders Classic Tournament, at Rangeview High School, not dropping a game en route to an overtime win against Vista PEAK Prep for the gold. The Cougars also took down The Denver Waldorf School, DSST: Conservatory Green High School, and Rangeview on their path to victory.

The Cougars domination of their league games seemed to foreshadow their dominance at the Raiders Classic. Niwot took their April 15 match against Riverdale Ridge 3-1, splitting the first two sets, winning 25-20 and losing 25-23, respectively, before running away with the match with a 25-14 win and a 25-20 final set victory.

Niwot carried the momentum into the Tuesday, April 16 matchup against Greeley Central, coming away with a 3-0 sweep. Niwot didn't keep any series close as they were 25-17, 25-19, and 25-16, respectively.

The Cougars kept their dominance going on Thursday, April 18 as they blew out Centaurus in the first two sets before winning a tough battle in the third set.

Niwot opened the match up with a 25-11 win, making quick work of Centaurus before a somewhat tougher 25-18 win. Niwot seemed set to run away with the match, going up 20-15 in the final set before the Warriors went on an 8-0 run to take a 23-20 lead. Niwot regrouped, scoring five consecutive points all the way to a 25-23 win, making quick work for their third win of the week.

Niwot came into Saturday's tournament with a mission, starting with their first opponent, Denver Waldorf. The Cougars made quick work of the Spartans taking the match with 25-17 and 25-12 victories.

Niwot continued their dominance with a 25-13 set against DSST, before finishing off the Hornets with a 25-9 win to take the match. Niwot once again found success against the hosting Rangeview, taking the first set 25-12. Niwot had a bit more of a challenge with the second set, but still took the match with a 25-21 victory to advance to the finals.

The Cougars had a great matchup against Vista PEAK Prep, a team they had beaten earlier this season 3-1. Niwot started strong, taking the first set 25-22. Niwot faltered, dropping their first set of the tournament, 25-18, to send the finals to a thrilling overtime. The Cougars squeaked by with a 15-13 win to take the match and first place in the Raiders Classic.

Niwot is hitting its final leg of the season, with just two matches left on the year. Niwot will take on Thornton High School and Arvada West High School to close out the regular season before heading to the playoffs.
