All Local, All The Time

Home on the Grange

Thanks to the Niwot Local Improvement District (LID), the Grange building has been granted enough funds to allow the community center to complete three major improvements to the main floor hall. Watch for the rental space to be upgraded with paint and acoustic ceiling tiles by the end of April. New lighting fixtures will be installed in May.

Each of these upgrades will go a long way in adding character and warmth to the venue's ambiance. The LID has approved funding half of the improvements of this exciting renovation.

Niwot Community Connection Monthly Meeting

Thursday, April 11, 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Why are bees swarming in my yard? Bee swarms, a fascinating spring phenomenon, are the honey bee's reproduction method. Beth Conrey, owner of Bee Squared Apiaries and co-founder of People & Pollinators Action Network, presents "The Magic of Swarms." Conrey has managed the Boulder County Swarm Hotline for more than a decade and will answer questions about this intriguing topic.

In addition to the presentation, the organization will update members on what's happening throughout the community and touch on what each of the many interest groups are up to.

NCC offers a diverse array of activities for folks 50 and over. If you are interested in learning more about the group and joining, write to [email protected].

Community dance classes

This month, under the direction of instructor/choreographer Lindy Bartruff, community dance classes offer three opportunities for the community to feel completely joyful while learning new dance steps and being active. Class level and content are matched to the participants of each class.

From 5:00 p.m. - 5:50 p.m., participate in a free Jazz Broadway dance sampler which combines classic and contemporary styles from Broadway hits.

From 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., jump into a line dancing session.

From 7:05 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on April 3 and 17, step into a Greek folk dance workshop.

A dance party on April 24 will bring back the nostalgia of the 90's as you relive the fun of the Hammer Dance and the Macarena. Costumes are encouraged. For more information and registration, visit lindybdance.com

English Country dance classes

Friday, April 26, 7:30 - 10:00 p.m. Doors open at 7:15 p.m.

If you've watched the movies "Pride and Prejudice" or "Emma," you've seen the beauty of English country dancing which is done in lines and circles. During this evening class, you'll learn to dance a variety of energizing and mesmerizing dances accompanied by live music provided by Teri Rasmusson, Royston Hunget, and Phil Normand. Listening to the gorgeous music will be as compelling as the dances.

All are welcome; no partner, no experience or fancy dress required. Participants will be dancing all evening as the tradition is to change partners regularly.

Instructor Chris Kermiet will share a bit of the history of each dance. Easy dances begin the evening leading up to more elegant and graceful dances as the instruction continues.

Admission: adults $15, teens/students only $10. Refreshments will be served.
