All Local, All The Time

Scott L. Malan Profile

How much fun is this? After nearly 50 years of climbing the corporate ladder, Biff Warren asked me to come back to my roots – writing about high school sports for the Courier. Seriously? Talk about coming around full circle!

While still in college at the University of Utah, I found myself working for the Salt Lake (City) Tribune -- first as a copy boy (yell "BOY!!!" and I still come running) and, after about 18 months, as a full-fledged sportswriter at the ripe old age of 20. What a great job! But seven years later, it was time to move home to Colorado, where I had graduated from Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, and raised a family.

For the bulk of my professional career, I was with Home State Bank of Loveland where I helped to build our bank from one branch to 12 locations in Northern Colorado. My final position there was as Senior Vice President of Retail Banking.

My extracurricular passions are sailing and scuba diving, both of which I have done in Colorado but prefer to do in the warm, clear waters of the Caribbean.

I have three 30-something children, two 20-something step-kids and three granddaughters (15, 12, and 4)! My partner, Theresa, and I live in Gunbarrel and spend several weeks a year on South Padre Island, Texas. Someday, we may actually retire, but how much fun is that?
