Niwot High School boys basketball drops to 3-4

The Niwot High School boys basketball team has strung together two tough weeks as their season continues to slide. Niwot fell roughly to both Severance High School and Riverdale Ridge High School. The Cougars started the week with a loss to the Riverdale Ridge Ravens, 66-48, to fall to 3-3 on the year before losing to the Severance Silver Knights, 59-36, dropping to 3-4 on the year.

Niwot started slow against Riverdale Ridge, only scoring 12 points in the first half. The Ravens ran up the score, dropping 28 to start the game, before Niwot caught fire in the second half. The Cougars put up 36 points in the second half, only giving up 38.

Jackson Carano's 12 points led the team against the Ravens, followed by Luke Demmel's eight on 100% shooting efficiency, Rohit Das's eight, Sebastian Stenz's seven, Brighton Langenegger's five, and Taylor Rodanski's five. Niwot shot the ball well, shooting 46% on the game, but struggled to get shots up as they had 24 turnovers. Langenegger led the way with five assists, but the team as a whole struggled to move the ball around. Niwot also got out-rebounded 26-19, with the Cougars led by Carano's seven rebounds.

Niwot's next game was against Severance, which dominated in the first and third quarters to beat Niwot 59-36. Niwot won the second and fourth quarters, 23-17 combined, but was completely overwhelmed in the other quarters, getting outscored 42-13. Niwot's slow starts were the reason for their fourth straight loss, but the game wasn't without promise.

Niwot's statistics were not available at press time.

Niwot's next game will be against the Longmont High School Trojans, at Longmont High School at 7:00 pm on Tuesday. It will be Niwot's final game before the break.
