NHS wrestling shows early success

The Niwot High School wrestling lineup enjoyed early-season success on Nov. 29 during matches with Wheat Ridge High School. The Cougars ended up walking away with a 60-18 victory.

With seven forfeits on the board in Niwot’s favor, the six remaining matches left room for the Cougars to show strategy and control. The team collected pins at the 132, 165, and 190 weight classes, contributing 18 points to the overall sum.

Wheat Ridge found their own success with pins in the 120, 126, and 138-pound weight classes.

Over the weekend, the Cougars participated in the Ft. Lupton Aggen Invite. After the tournament, the Niwot varsity wrestlers had the following records:

•Hikaru Johnson: 2-2

•Ryder Evans: 2-2

•Arlo Richards: 1-3

•Oliver Jones: 0-4

•Russell Ragland: 1-3

•Gavin Burrage: 4-0

•Pavi Soni: 2-2 *

•Max Burke Bedell: 0-4

•Jonathan Lopez: 1-3

The Cougars began their dual season 1-0 and will head into a dual with Timnath High School, Wednesday, Dec. 8, with confidence under their belt. JV begins at 6:00 p.m. and varsity at 6:30 p.m. at Niwot High School.
