Cake4Kids annual Gingerbread House Decorating Competition

The annual Niwot Gingerbread House Competition is up and running. The competition raises funds for Cake4Kids, an organization dedicated to providing birthday

cakes to children in need.

Participants in the contest decorate pre-made gingerbread houses, showcasing their creativity and decorating skills. This year, the event is sponsored by Deborah

Fowler, Realtor with Niwot's DRF Real Estate at Slifer Smith & Frampton.

Local baker Joan's Petite Sweets donated her time and ingredients to make 50 gingerbread houses ready to be decorated for the event.

Participants can sign up on EventBrite for their gingerbread house kits. Houses can then be picked up at The Left Hand Grange during the Holiday Market event on Dec. 9. Each gingerbread house comes with two bags of frosting and a board to put it on.

Competitors may use additional decorations at their discretion although judges prefer edible decorations, with the exception of fairy lights. Houses may not extend beyond the limits of the board provided.

A suggested $50 donation from participants benefits Cake4Kids.

Participants may drop their decorated houses at Niwot Wheel Works on

Sunday, Dec. 10 at 3:00 p.m.

Entries will be divided into three age groups: 11 years and under, 12-18 years, and 19 years and older.

Prizes will be awarded in two categories within each age group: Best Holiday Theme and Best Use of Candy. A grand prize will be awarded for Best in Show.
