Niwot boys soccer wins home opener

The Niwot High School boys' soccer season officially started with a blowout 5-1 win at their home opener against the Pueblo West High School Cyclones last Thursday, Aug. 17.

Niwot soccer has set itself a high bar as they are coming off a 14-4 season with some playoff success. This first win seems to have set the pace with hopefully a lot more success to follow.

Senior Bo Gardner led the team in goals with two against Pueblo West. Senior Josh Rodriguez, senior Jett Fiener, and junior Naveen Bopearachchigedon, all grabbed themselves a goal with Feiner getting one assist, and Rodriguez getting two assists. Both Malachi Gilmore and Lucas Willard played in the net for a half, with Gilmore getting a save on one shot, and Willard letting one sneak by on one shot.

Overall, Niwot's boys soccer team looks just as promising as it did last season, as it combines offensive and defensive success to take a commanding victory.

Coach Stephen Dimit comes back this year as the head coach after his continuous success over the last couple of seasons. Niwot has also done a great job replenishing their lost senior talent as nine of their 19 rostered players are seniors, with some promising juniors, including their goalkeepers and two underclassmen who fought their way onto the varsity roster.

Niwot's next game will be at home next Thursday, Aug. 24 at 6:30 p.m. against the Wheat Ridge High School Farmers, who are yet to play this season but went 12-4 last year including a 1-0 win against Niwot.
