All Local, All The Time

Scouts' fundraising efforts a success

Approximately 35 people attended the Scout Troop 161 Fundraiser Trivia Night at The Wheel House in Niwot on Monday, June 12.

The event was a fundraiser for Niwot's Scout Troops 161-B and 161-G. "We raised $2,465 through the ticket sales and silent auction," Scout Kyrie Moorman said. "We thank all of our silent auction donors, The Wheel House, Niwot Market, and of course Deb Fowler for setting everything up."

The event brought together a diverse group of participants of all ages who were ready to showcase their knowledge, have fun, and contribute to a worthy cause. The venue, kindly donated by The Wheel House, was described as perfect for the fundraising event by one of the organizers.

Food was generously donated by the Niwot Market and featured their well-loved enchiladas, and a lovely green salad, complemented by cookies decorated with various merit badges, and donated, along with the event marketing, by Deborah Fowler of DRF Real Estate-Slifer Smith & Frampton.

Teams of participants, consisting of families, friends and members of Scout Troop 161, gathered around tables, armed with pens, paper, and a burning desire to conquer the trivia challenges ahead.

The Trivia Night consisted of multiple rounds of questions encompassing the theme of scouting. Between rounds, everyone checked in on the Nuggets from the big screen. The Wheel Works proprietor, Eric Bergeson, set the tone for an evening of entertainment and friendly competition and kept the event flowing smoothly, ensuring that everyone was engaged throughout the night.

In addition to the trivia competition, the event incorporated a silent auction to generate additional funds for Troop 161-B & Troop 161-G. Silent Auction items offered attendees an opportunity to contribute beyond the trivia competition and dinner ticket. Generous local businesses donated a wide array of items, ensuring there was something for everyone.

The Scouts also wrapped up their duck raffle sales. "It was a huge success," Moorman said. "We appreciate all of the community support."

The duck race is scheduled for July 8 in the St. Vrain River and there are prizes for top winners. Ticket sale revenue goes to the Rotary Club of Niwot and to organizations like Troop 161 that helped sell the tickets.

Scouts will also be out at Rock & Rails collecting donations and are the recipients of the tip jars on July 27. Scouts use the fundraising to support summer camps, camping gear, camping fees throughout the year, ice cream socials, leadership training, and the cost of badges and awards.

The Scouts meet every week during the school year at the Left Hand Grange in Niwot. Troop 161 is a co-ed troop sponsored by the Left Hand Grange.
