All Local, All The Time

NCA Clean-Up Day May 20

Mark your calendars for May 20 as the Niwot Community Association (NCA) is once again hosting its annual Clean-Up Day. The event will take place in the parking lot of Niwot High School from 8 a.m. to 12 noon for all members of the NCA.

If you are not currently a member of the community association or have yet to renew your membership, don't worry. You can make your payment of $30 when you arrive at the event. Payments can be made to the NCA via cash, check, Paypal, or Venmo. For more information about joining or renewing membership, visit http://www.niwot.org and select the membership tab.

NCA members may drop off two free trash loads. A load is equivalent to a standard sized pickup at bed level. Additional trash runs are $25 per load.

Non-members who do not wish to join the NCA are still welcome to participate and will be allowed to unload trash for a fee of $40 for each load.

Items accepted for Clean-Up Day include yard waste, scrap metal, styrofoam, latex paint, and more. Some items, such as electronics, mattresses, and box springs, may require additional fees.

Cardboard and aluminum are not accepted but can be deposited in the recycling bins on 79th Street. Glass and mirrors are not accepted for the safety of volunteers. All motorized equipment which uses gas or oil will also not be accepted. For more details on acceptable items, see http://www.niwot.org where you can submit a question regarding acceptable items for Clean-Up Day.

"When I took over the job of organizing this event," said John Barto, program manager for Clean Up Day, "it was incredible to see how many volunteers we had contributing and helping us facilitate a smooth operation."

Groups which have regularly assisted with the event include the Scouts of Troop 161, the Niwot High School Band, and members of the NCA.

"Regardless of rain, snow, or shine, this event will happen and run smoothly thanks to the dedication of the NCA and its volunteers," Barto said. "The busiest times are usually from 8 to 9 in the morning, but after around 9:30, there are usually less people, so feel free to come throughout the duration of the event. We have plenty of dumpsters that get replaced when they become full."

This event is funded by NCA Members' annual dues and Boulder County Recycling. By joining the Niwot Community Association or paying individual load fees, this event can continue to occur annually.
