Bumper to Bumper - 2nd Avenue repaving and more

On April 20 at 9:30 a.m. the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) will hold a hearing on the CO 119 Safety and Mobility and Bikeway Projects (Docket SI-22-0002). This is the continuation of the Colorado "1041" process, which allows Boulder County to evaluate how county land use regulations and the Comprehensive Plan apply to governmental projects. The Bikeway Project is a 9-mile long 12-foot-wide multi-use path in the median between the traffic lanes of the Diagonal Highway. Boulder County is leading the Bikeway Project. Public input will be taken at this hearing.

Repaving 2nd Avenue in Niwot will begin on April 24. Andrew Barth, Communications Specialist for Boulder County Public Works, provided the following details: "This work was scheduled for last year but was not completed because other projects took longer than anticipated and we were not able to get to 2nd Avenue before temperatures got too cold and asphalt production plants closed for the season. Work will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. and will take four days to complete. It is scheduled to start on Monday, April 24, so work should be done by Thursday afternoon, April 27, weather permitting. Work will entail milling two to three inches of the existing asphalt surface, followed by repaving of the same depth. Restriping will occur after paving has been completed. Signage will be posted a week in advance of work starting so people know about the project and the daytime, weekday parking restrictions. We will need to close this section of 2nd Ave during working hours, but sidewalks will remain open so people can access businesses. No parking will be allowed during working hours in the construction zone. No parking signs will be posted in advance and each day of the project. The road will reopen in the afternoon each day and remain open until work starts at 7 a.m. the following day. The 2nd Avenue intersections with Murray and Franklin streets will be closed when work is taking place in these spots."

Boulder County Community Planning and Permitting is conducting an online survey of mobility needs in transportation. The survey will be open until April 30. The survey can be found at the following website:

The City of Boulder is updating the Airport Master Plan. The work applies specifically to the Boulder Municipal Airport but clearly affects the Niwot-Gunbarrel area. Boulder has invited the community to provide input through public meetings and a questionnaire. The questionnaire is open now until May 4 and can be found at:

A working group for this project has been created, with the first meeting held in March. More meetings and events will be announced at the above website.
