Kasanicky takes first at Northridge

Alena Kasanicky returned to her winning ways for the Niwot Cougar girls golf team, taking top honors at the Northridge league meet at Boomerang Golf Club in Greeley March 21.

Kasanicky, who is also competing in track as a distance runner for the Cougars this spring, carded a 76 on the 18 holes, finishing three strokes ahead of her closest competition.

She was joined on the links by Ayla Schatz (99), Sophia McBee (118) and Jo Gravelle (121), giving the Cougars a fifth-place finish as a team in the 10-team league.

Head Coach Ed Weaver was optimistic with his team's performance as spring break left the team without Mina O'Dell and Kate Jones. In the meantime, some of the younger golfers are gaining experience. "It will get better as the season goes," Weaver said.

The Cougars have three meets scheduled for the first week back after spring break with two varsity meets along with a JV scramble.
