Niwot girls soccer loses 4-1 ahead of break

Ahead of spring break the Niwot High School girls soccer team played against the Wheat Ridge Farmers last Tuesday. Niwot fell short of victory, losing the game 4-1. Consistency has plagued the Cougars so far, with varying levels of game play. Niwot has a tough schedule after the break, facing both Mead and Silver Creek.

In Niwot's game against Wheat Ridge, freshman Heather Humphrey scored her first goal of the season, which was assisted by senior Tiffany Yie. Both of Niwot's goalies played during the game, with freshman Mariah Fletemeyer getting the start and junior Sami Sessa playing the last 15 minutes.

Head Coach Stephen Dimit described Niwot's early season. "Our first three games were against three top-16 teams, and I'm happy with our progress so far. It's a long season, and I'm looking forward to getting our team into league play after gaining some great experience against top teams."

Dimit is looking forward to coming back after the break. "The season is early, and there are a lot of positives we are building on. We have been gaining a lot of experience on our back line, which should help us against two tough teams in Mead and Silver Creek. We have played a lot of players in new positions and they have done a great job learning quickly."

Niwot's next game will be against the Mead Mavericks at Niwot's new home field on Wednesday, March 29, at 6:30 p.m.
