All Local, All The Time

Saturday was Lucky Day in Niwot

Blue skies and a warm early spring day set the stage last Saturday for Lucky Niwot Day festivities held on 2nd Avenue and at Cottonwood Square. As part of the event, families and groups of friends dressed in green walked between stations and into shops, filled tables at restaurant patios and made lines at coffee shops.

Street musicians performed at stations along the street and Irish dancers performed in front of Inkberry Books.

Individual retailers gave away a range of delicious food fit for the occasion. Blessings Day Spa served Irish Coffee in a souvenir mug, Osmosis Art Gallery gave visitors whiskey Irish truffles and Few of a Kind Vintage + Mercantile provided shortbread.

La Musette passed corned beef, shepherds pie and Guinness out of its window, and Niwot Tavern served corned beef and cabbage and bangers and mash. Shortbread and seasonal cookies were found at Little Bird and Cimminis. Niwot Market offered a full Irish Breakfast.

Some activity stations focused on charitable giving. In the hallway outside of the Old Oak Coffeehouse, Niwot Youth Sports was accepting donations for field improvements, a new storage facility, and onsite bathrooms as part of the Monarch Improvement Project at Hangge Fields at Monarch Park.

Outside of Fly Away Home Decor, a trio of girls from Altona Middle School sold baked goods for $7 each to benefit Cake4Kids. "It's going well," said Juliana Batmazian who was part of the group. "We're doing this for charity. For kids who don't have money, who might not be able to afford a cake for themselves when it's their birthday."

Generally, the atmosphere was festive and revelers were excited to be able to get outside for one of the first temperate days of spring. Many took advantage of the horse-drawn carriage rides that took passengers back and forth between 2nd Avenue and Cottonwood Square.

Carissa Brandes, who was serving lucky lemonade at a table outside of Niwot Inn and Spa with her father and her son, shared how much she enjoyed being part of the day. "We keep getting lucky with these perfect weather days for events. In the mountains, it's snowing but not here. And seeing the kids running around, it's wonderful."
