All Local, All The Time

NYS basketball wrapping up as baseball & softball registration opens

Niwot Youth Sports (NYS) basketball is in full swing, with 200 youth participants this winter competing in the Rocky Mountain Youth Basketball league.

NYS is fielding 15 teams this winter and teams have played four weekends of action thus far. There are two more weekends of regular season play followed by an end of season tournament Feb. 27 through March 4. NYS teams play against local talent from Rocky Mountain Youth Sports Upward League and Carbon Valley Recreation Center.

In addition to basketball, NYS Sponsorships and Marketing Director Riki Frea and NYS President Pat Longseth remain hard at work with the Monarch Improvement Project (MVP).

The MVP project has raised approximately $300,000 of their $500,000 dollar goal and initial construction has begun on the site. The goal is to build a permanent structure, which will house a concession stand, indoor bathroom facility, and storage facility at the Hangge Fields at Monarch Park in Niwot, built and ready to use for the spring 2023 baseball-softball season.

For more information, go to http://www.niwotyouthsports.org, and click on the MVP Project icon. Donations of any kind remain welcome, and donors of $100 or more will be recognized on a permanent display on the building.

Even though there may be several more weeks of winter on the way, NYS baseball registration is officially open for spring 2023, and early registration ends on March 1. New this year are evaluations for AAA (ages 9-10), Majors (ages 11-12) and Seniors (ages 13-14) at the Longmont Baseball League (LBL) complex on March 5.

Also new and exciting this spring is a Recreational High School League for baseball players ages 15-18. NYS baseball commissioner Ben Bernstein has been hard at work with LBL partnerships and in expanding NYS baseball offerings. Bubblegum (ages 4-5), Rookie (ages 5-6) and AA (ages 7-8) registration is ongoing as well.

NYS softball registration opened last week and offers programs for female players ages 4-18. NYS softball participates in the Indian Peaks Girls Softball Association (IPGSA). NYS recreational soccer registration for players ages 4-8 is also open. For all registrations, go to http://www.niwotyouthsports.org. Opening Day will be at the Hangge Fields at Monarch Park on April 30.
