Stephen Dimit to take over as interim NHS girls soccer coach

Niwot High School Athletic Director Joe Brown announced that girls soccer coach Jenna Machado has resigned due to the time demands of a growing family. With informal workouts beginning, Brown did not have to look far to find an interim coach to take over the program.

Niwot High boys soccer coach Stephen Dimit agreed to step in and serve as head coach for the 2023 season. Dimit is no stranger to NHS girls soccer, having served as head coach for the girls program in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

When Dimit stepped down after the 2019 season, Machado was hired. Unfortunately Machado's first season in 2020 ended after two scrimmages as Covid-19 shut down prep soccer programs.

The Niwot girls finished last season with a record of 8-8 overall, but played a tough non-conference schedule as they finished with a league record of 7-2. The Cougars lost the first round of the playoffs last season, but the cupboard is far from bare for Dimit as only five seniors were lost to graduation in 2022.

Brown emailed an announcement to the girls soccer team members, saying, "We would like to thank Coach Machado for coaching the Girls' Soccer Team for the last few years and extend our best wishes to her and her family as they begin the next chapter in their life."

Brown introduced Dimit to the current girls soccer team, saying, "We are excited to announce that the current Niwot Boys Soccer Head Coach Stephen Dimit will be the Interim Head Coach for the 2023 Girls' Soccer season. Coach has worked at NHS since 2016 as an English Teacher and Head Soccer Coach. While at Niwot High School, Coach Dimit has led the [Boys] Soccer team to appear in the State Tournament multiple times, including in the quarter-finals once and the semi-finals twice. His teams won Conference Titles in 2017, 2018, 2021, and 2022. Additionally, he has been recognized as Coach of the Year in 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022."
