All Local, All The Time

Let's Talk About...Where's the Scissors?

Ok. I love my husband dearly. He's a good person, a great father and a great husband, and he is very handy around the house. Ok. You are thinking, "here it comes..." But no. Well, yes.

I don't know if you have experienced this with your spouse, partner, roommate, or children. Maybe it's just me. But keep in mind we have lived in the same house for 20, no, almost 30 years.

I guarantee you there are items in the house that have been in the same drawer, on the same shelf, in the same closet for the entire time. Oh, did I mention we have both have lived in that same house the same entire time?

Then why do I hear these questions all the time? (Usually when I am in the middle of something-very-important):

· "Where are the stamps?"

· "Where do you keep the toilet paper?"

· "Where's the measuring tape?"

· "Where do you keep some paper?"

· "Where's the rubber bands?"

· "Do we have a ruler?"

· "Where's the masking tape?"

· "Do we have an umbrella?" (I know we don't get to use one often, but, really?)

And my favorite:

· Where's the scissors?

Seriously?

Except for the toilet paper (which is in the bathroom), and the umbrella (the hall closet) all of the aforesaid items are in what we call "the junk drawer." And they have been there since the beginning of time. And, as an aside, any question that begins with, "Where do you keep the ____" is annoying. I am not the keeper of all things.

So, I patiently answer, "In the junk drawer."

"Where is that?" (Are you kidding me?)

"The drawer by the coffee maker."

Then, inevitably, you hear, "I looked there. It's not there."

What is up with that?

Needless to say, I put down that very-important-thing I am doing, walk to the junk drawer and pull out the tape, ruler, paper, and of course, the scissors.

Is this a game? I am not sure. But I guess I am glad I am good for something-very-important.
