The Niwot Business Association's Holiday Magic events on the day after Thanksgiving and the first two Saturdays of December produced increased attendance and raised almost $2,000 for charity.
Deb Fowler, NBA vice-president and champion of the events, reported to the Niwot Local Improvement District, which provided funding for the event.
The festivities began with Enchanted Evening, on what is known elsewhere as Black Friday, with Linda Klueber organizing the annual Christmas tree lighting, a visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus, a concert by the Niwot Community Semi-Marching Free Grange Band, strolling carolers, horse drawn carriage rides, and Niwot businesses providing refreshments throughout the business district. Sarah Cioni of Belle Terre arranged for a special performance by "Elsa" of the popular children's "Frozen" movies, which thrilled the younger set.
On Saturday, Dec. 3, Klueber and many volunteers coordinated the annual Holiday Parade on Second Avenue, with Santa and Mrs. Claus returning to the Left Hand Grange for another visit..
Fowler coordinated a fayre at Left Hand Grange on both Dec. 3 and Dec. 10, where craft vendors offered unique gift items to shoppers. She reported that 500 candy canes were given out over the four events, "which seemed the perfect amount – none left over."
The weather on both Saturdays was unseasonably warm, which likely contributed to the success of the events. "The first Saturday we had the local Boy Scouts pick up wreaths to and the Niwot chapter of Cake 4 Kids had the gingerbread homes picked up, which drove additional traffic," Fowler said. "The second Saturday we had live music at the fayre and people stayed longer.
Additions this year included a Christmas Tree charity drive at Niwot Market "which raised almost $2,000 for various local charities," Fowler said. She also noted that the holiday decorations at the Grange for Santa will need to be replaced next year.
Attendance at the fayre on the first Saturday was 749, a 24% increase over 2021, and the 626 who attended the second Saturday was a 19% increase over the prior year.
