VOLLEYBALL

Morgan Daugherty (Niwot) played in 21 of 27 matches for South Dakota School of Mines as a freshman this season. Daugherty, an opposite hitter, recorded 110 kills for Mines, to go along with 20 blocks, including four solo blocks. She added 26 digs on the season. One of her best efforts came at Black Hills State during a 5-set victory Sept. 6. Daugherty recorded 12 kills in 29 attempts for a .310 hitting percentage.

CROSS COUNTRY

Samree Dishon (Niwot) helped New Mexico to a second-place finish at the NCAA Division I National Championships Nov. 19 in Stillwater, Okla. Dishon posted a time of 20:13.5 which put her in 31st place overall and third among New Mexico runners on the 6K course. Over 250 women competed in the event. The sophomore's best career time for a 6K is 19:51.8. She began the 2022-23 indoor track season by placing 31st in the 5,000M at the Boston University Sharon Colyear Danville Season Opener Dec. 3.

Zane Bergen (Niwot) made his collegiate debut for Stanford University at the Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 24 at Oklahoma State University against some of the best squads in the nation. Bergen finished 114th overall, in a time of 24:50.8. Stanford took second in the meet. Bergen also finished 42nd at the PAC-12 championships Oct. 28, which Stanford won.

Arlo Lennert (Niwot) ran cross country for Vassar in the fall 2022 season. Lennert finished 35th in the Vassar Season Starter, a 3K event to open the season. Her best performance in the 6K came in the Liberty League Championships Oct. 29 when she posted a time of 26:23.5 and finished 67th overall.

Grady Rauba (Niwot) posted his best time of the season for the University of Colorado at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla. Sept. 24 with a time of 24:23.1 for the 8K course. His time placed him 77th out of 241 collegiate runners. Rauba also finished 60th at the Nuttycombe Invitational Oct. 14.

Joaquin Herrera (Niwot) finished 38th for Adams State at the Ted Castenada Cross Country Classic Oct. 1, posting a time of 26:46.7. Herrera also ran the indoor mile at the Mountaineer Open and Multi at Western State, finishing fifth out of 18 runners with a time of 4:27.78 at the Dec. 9-10 track meet.

Joelle McDonald (Niwot) finished 64th for the University of Colorado at the Highlander Invitational in Riverside, Calif. Oct. 15. McDonald, a sophomore, posted a time of 21:47.0 in the 6K for the Buffaloes, and was fifth among her teammates. Colorado finished fifth out of 25 schools competing at the event.

TRACK

Kelia Portis (Niwot) is running the 400M for Western State University for the indoor track season. Portis, a sophomore, also runs the first leg of the 4x400 relay for Western State.

Erika Timbang (Niwot) finished sixth for the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on Dec. 9 in the 800M at the UCCS Pre-Holiday Multi event. Timbag, a redshirt junior, posted a time of 2:24.84, a new personal best.

SOCCER

Nora Hayden (Niwot) played in 14 games for Guilford in the fall of 2022. Hayden, a sophomore midfielder, started one game for Guilford and scored one goal, coming in an 18-1 victory over Sweet Briar. She earned Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honors her freshman season. Athletes must maintain a GPA of at least 3.25 to be considered for the honor. Guilford finished the season with a record of 12-5-1 after losing 1-0 to Virginia Wesleyan in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.

Kayla Osegueda (Niwot) played thirteen games for Black Hills State University, starting three. Osegueda is a sophomore defender for Black Hills State, had two shots on goal against Colorado Christian Sept. 16 in her team's only victory of the season. She earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll honors.

Angel Marrufo (Niwot) played 15 games for Laramie, starting three games as a freshman. Marrufo scored three goals on the season and added an assist. He scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Northwest College Sept. 23. His other goal came in a 2-0 victory over Western Texas College on Oct. 2.

SKIING

Emily Creek (Niwot) is a sophomore on the Northern Michigan Alpine Ski team. The season opens Jan. 7. Last spring, Creek placed 48th in the Giant Slalom at the USCSA Nationals.

GYMNASTICS

Brooke Irwin (Erie) made her debut for the University of West Virginia Jan. 6 at a meet against Lindenwood, Ball State and Florida. Irwin competed at the club level for Airborne Gymnastics in Longmont while in high school. She is the daughter of Niwot High School Tennis Coach Aimee Hites, and former Gunbarrel resident Blake Irwin. Her sister Peyten Irwin swims for the University of Northern Colorado (see below), and she has an impressive family history in athletics. Her mother played tennis in college for New Mexico, while her father played football for New Mexico as well as in the pros. Her uncle, Heath Irwin, was an offensive lineman for CU and later played for the New England Patriots. Her grandfather, Phil Irwin, played football at CU, and her great uncle, Hale Irwin, was an All-American defensive back at CU before becoming a well-known professional golfer, winning the U.S. Open three times.

SWIMMING

Peyten Irwin (Erie) is a junior swimming for the University of Northern Colorado this season. Irwin swims the butterfly events in addition to medley relays and individual medley events. Before the break, she won two butterfly events in a dual meet against Washington State, and finished third in the 200 butterfly at the Trailblazer Invitational in Utah in November. She is the daughter of Niwot High School Tennis Coach Aimee Hites and former Gunbarrel resident Blake Irwin. She is also the sister of gymnast Brooke Irwin, and has an impressive family history in athletics (see above).

Mary Codevilla (Niwot) is swimming for Notre Dame University as a freshman in several events, including freestyle, breaststroke and individual medley. In a triangular meet against Pittsburgh and Penn State Oct. 21-22, Codevilla finished fifth in the 200Y breaststroke, ninth in the 100Y breaststroke, and 11th in the 200Y IM. She also swam several relays for the Fighting Irish, who won against both opponents. Against Louisville Nov. 11, she finished sixth in the 100Y breaststroke, sixth in the 100Y freestyle, again swimming several relays. At the Ohio State Fall Invitational, Codevilla finished 17th overall in the 200Y breaststroke, and 21st in the 100Y breaststroke, helping Notre Dame to a seventh-place finish out of 13 teams.

BASKETBALL

Cooper Sheldon (Niwot) is averaging 7.4 points per game for Doane University this season. Sheldon, a 6'6" junior forward, had his best game in a 76-72 victory over Morningside, when he scored 18 points, shooting 8-12 from the field and playing the entire game. He followed with 13 points against Manhattan Christian College in another victory. Doane is 7-9 on the season.
