Rock & Rails crew cleans up Whistle Stop Park

The 2022 Rock & Rails summer concert season has long been over, but offseason work continues.

Co-managers Vicki Maurer and Dan Hawk organized a crew of 11 to meet up at Whistle Stop Park Jan. 7 to clean and reorganize the Depot building for the offseason.

Chris Teta, who handles set-up and break-down on concert nights, Tom Smathers, who coordinates the food vendors, and Satir DeMarco, who books all of the bands, were joined by regular beer tent volunteers Tony Maurer, Maureen Miller, Doug Miller, Chris Davis and Lulu Davis.

In spite of the frigid January weather, the volunteers were able to move barrels frozen to the ground into the building, repair fencing and put supplies in storage for the winter.

The 2023 Rock & Rails concert season will open Thursday, Jun. 1 and continue through Aug. 31, with 14 concerts planned. The event is co-managed by the Niwot Cultural Arts Association and the Niwot Business Association.
