NCA plans annual meeting & clean-up day

The Niwot Community Association (NCA) held its monthly board meeting Jan. 4 in the Mountain View Fire Rescue Niwot Station conference room.

The board approved the budget proposed for 2023. Costs have increased for many of the NCA's events and activities, but there are no plans to increase the annual membership fee. It was reported that membership in the NCA has increased to 364 members.

The board followed up on the presentation made to the board last month about a possible affordable housing project at the northeast corner of the Diagonal Highway and Mineral Road which is encumbered by a county conservation easement. The board concluded that there is currently no county activity taking place in pursuit of the project. The NCA will continue to monitor this matter for any changes in its status.

Board member John Barto is planning the 2023 Niwot Clean Up Day. Barto said the first steps are to obtain insurance coverage for participants and to set the date in coordination with the Saint Vrain Valley School District. The event is held in the spring of each year in the parking lot of Niwot High School.

Planning is ongoing for the annual NCA meeting, which will be held Apr. 19 at the Left Hand Grange. The agenda is now being developed and plans are being made for a guest speaker.

Vicky Dorvee, board director for Trails and Open Space, reported that Boulder County Parks and Open Space is planning to replace the bridge/culvert in the Springhill area of Niwot this year. She said it will likely require some trail closures and temporary trail rerouting.

Liz Marr, board director for Subdivision Roads reported that the Subdivision Paving Coalition is continuing to work with the Boulder County Public Works Department to resolve the challenges of paving subdivision roads.

Marr said there is some optimism now that county voters approved the extension of the transportation sales tax. She also said the tax extension maintains the previous tax rate so it does not provide additional money to solve this problem, but it does provide some political clarity to work toward a solution.

Marr, who also represents Area 7, reported that Lake Valley Estates has established a Community Wildfire Protection Committee and is working closely with Boulder Rural Fire Rescue on fire mitigation, including coordinating with the City of Boulder and Boulder County on open space mitigation along the western and southern perimeters of the subdivision.

Board meetings are generally held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Mountain View Fire Protection District Firehouse #4 (8500 Niwot Rd.) in Niwot.

NCA members are encouraged to attend monthly board meetings and the public is welcome. If you wish to speak or want a specific issue discussed, please contact the NCA board one week in advance of the meeting to be included on the agenda.
