All Local, All The Time

Leonard Sitongia Profile

I grew up close enough to the ocean to have salt water in my veins, but the stars brought me to Colorado in 1981. Grad school in astrophysics didn't bring the stars any closer but I learned a lot about the universe. I worked in a few observatories and labs, retired, and moved from the Boulder foothills to Niwot in 2014.

I dove headfirst into the balmy waters of Niwot and found myself in a sea of different kinds of stars: the people who volunteer to make this a great community. I volunteer for several organizations. It's been a great way to meet and make friends.

I started writing for this newspaper earlier this year. My only previous experience in journalism was working on the junior high school yearbook. That's enough to fancy myself a "cub reporter." That should tell you that I haven't outgrown my imagination. Still, I do enjoy being a part of an effort that is so important to Niwot. Journalism is vital to communities and the Courier is vital to Niwot.

We are each island universes in a sea of blackness, as the early academic astronomers imagined galaxies to be. Each of our minds contains a complete universe, isolated from each other, connected only by the light that shines between us. Keep the light shining in all directions and reaching everyone.
