All Local, All The Time

An unexpected Christmas tradition

In 1956, Robert Hersh lost his two front teeth just before Christmastime. Now, 66 years later, his granddaughter Ella is missing those same teeth.

Hersh made his local paper in Westchester, New York, alongside two of his Woodside School peers, and the family has held onto a copy of the clipping. When Ella, an 8-year-old student at Niwot Elementary School, noticed her teeth were loose, the family was excited.

"When Ella was missing her two front teeth, both of my parents sent me photos of [the article]," said Sarah Hersh Rizzolo, Ella's mother.

Wanting to recreate the moment, she recruited Avery Cascio, age 7, another Niwot Elementary student, and Peachy South, 8, a student at Longmont Estates to join her in the photo.

"Ella's very excited! She was very proud to hold the clipping of her grandfather," said Sarah. "[It's] a cool family tradition now."
