Niwot boys soccer takes easy victories

With a record of 8-3, including a 5-0 record in league play, the Niwot boys soccer team is looking to move up in the CHSAA state 4A rankings.

The Cougars entered last week ranked eighth in Class 4A, with a 6-3 record. On Oct. 4, Niwot traveled to Thompson Valley, to take on the Eagles, who entered the contest with a record of 2-7.

Niwot scored one goal in the first half before adding three more goals in the second half to take firm control of the game, which ended with a 4-0 victory. Moses Ramirez, Bo Gardner, Javier Alvira and Usiel Franco Cruz each scored goals for the Cougars, while Alvira, Josh Rodreguez, Orlando Lopez and Josh Ary provided assists.

Seniors Javier Amaya and Matt Hansen split time in goal in the shutout.

The Cougars followed with a home victory under the lights against an overmatched Mountain View team, which ended with a mercy-rule 10-0 score twenty minutes into the second period on Oct. 6.

Hansen started in goal and played the first half before Amaya finished up. Hansen even got into the scoring column with a goal in the second half. Ary scored a goal and picked up two assists, while Lopez, Gardner, Jeff Feiner and Jay Scharfe each added a goal and an assist. Others scoring goals for Niwot included Veer Gandhakwala, Eric Walker and Alvira, while Miles Verbeck added an assist.
