Niwot Community Connection

Beginning Oct. 13, the Niwot Community Connection (NCC) will meet at the Grange on the second Thursday of each month. Meetings will be held from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. The organization's mission is "to provide a forum for individuals over 50 years of age in the Niwot area to help build a sense of community and promote opportunities for connection and learning."

In addition to updates about the variety of activity groups the NCC offers, the October meeting will feature a class with local artist Jane Langdon titled "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain."

Anyone interested in joining the group should send an email to [email protected] and in response, you will receive a survey asking about your hobbies and interests.

Group dance classes

Lindy Bartruff of Lindybdance offers fun and supportive group dance and fitness classes for all ages and experience levels. Classes will be held on the following Tuesdays beginning at 5 p.m .: Oct. 18, 25, Nov. 15, 22, 29, Dec. 13, 20, 27.

The three classes, together called "Circles and Lines," begin with CircleFit 7 where Bartfuff will teach fun dance and aerobic steps in circles or chains. At 6 p.m. Line Dancing to country and contemporary songs goes into full swing, and, finally, International Circle Dance kicks off at 7 p.m. with ethnic circle and chain dances.

Senior Health and Recreation classes

Bo Fan (also known as Mala), former owner of Fan's Chinese Cuisine and the Niwot Conoco gas station, and longtime licensed practical nurse, is offering a program called "Senior Health and Recreation." The sessions are geared toward offering Niwot seniors simple ways to keep their bodies healthy with daily activities and delicious, nutritious foods.

Fan studied at a medical college for six years and has 20 years of experience working in hospitals and nursing homes. Now she's excited to share her knowledge with Niwotians.

Fan's presentations will be on the first Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Grange. Classes are free of charge. For additional information and to sign up for classes, contact Fan at [email protected]

Niwot Community Semi-Marching Free Grange Band

With colder weather and the holidays approaching, Niwot's community band will begin rehearsing at the Grange for upcoming performances. The band will gather for the Great Pumpkin Party parade on Oct. 29, then perform at the Veterans' Banner Ceremony at Cottonwood Square on Nov. 6 before several Holiday performances, beginning with Enchanted Evening on Nov. 25 and the Holiday Parade on Nov. 26.

The band, sponsored by the Niwot Cultural Arts Association and Left Hand Grange No. 9, is open to interested musicians. To join, contact Biff Warren at [email protected].
