All Local, All The Time

NCA September board meeting

The Niwot Community Association (NCA) held its monthly board meeting Sept. 7 in the Mountain View Fire Rescue Niwot Station conference room where several issues were discussed.

The Veterans Banner Project celebration will take place on Sunday, Nov. 6, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., in Cottonwood Square shopping center. Banners honoring veterans with local connections will be displayed downtown and in Cottonwood Square this fall.

Fall festivities in Niwot will keep the NCA Road Crew busy with several road closures, including The Great Pumpkin Party on Oct. 29 and the Holiday Parade on Nov. 26. The Road Crew consists of volunteers who position signs to close roads and redirect traffic around most road closures, though not all closures are managed by the Road Crew.

Jeff Knight, the NCA's representative on the Niwot Local Improvement District Advisory Committee (NLIDAC), reported on the LID's recent meeting, which featured a discussion about Niwot's transportation connectivity plan. He said there is strong interest in revisiting the 2012 plan for an update. For more information, see the LID article in this issue.

John Barto, the NCA's Area 5 representative, facilitated a meeting between neighbors and Niwot Youth Sports representatives in order to stay informed about the plans for improvements to Hangge Fields at Monarch Park.

Membership Director Johnny Barrett reported that the NCA's membership is up to 358. The board affirmed that people who join after July are members for the remainder of the current year and for the following year.

The NCA maintains the mural in the Longmont-Boulder trail underpass under Niwot Road. The NCA board is developing a plan to hold a volunteer work day in order to repair and preserve the mural.

Kathy Koehler, the NCA history representative on Boulder County's Niwot Design Review Committee, reported that two developments are of current interest. This committee is part of the government process to review development within Niwot Rural Community District I. The developments of current interest are 210 Franklin St., the former Colterra Restaurant property, and 364 2nd Ave., the current site of Lefty's Pizza.

The first phase of development of 210 Franklin St. will see updates to the historic Bader House and patio, including a commercial kitchen. A small cafe is being considered for that building. A new dental office for Niles Family Dentistry is in the planning stages for the property at 364 2nd Ave. in Niwot.
