Scott Roebuck takes top honors at Why Not Niwot? Juried Art Show

The Niwot Community Semi-Marching Free Grange Band was on hand to provide a musical backdrop to the 2022 Why Not Niwot? Juried Art Show awards ceremony Sept. 2 in front of Osmosis Art & Architecture.

The art contest, now in its 11th year, featured 36 entries in the Niwot Cultural Arts Association's annual contest featuring art about Niwot. The 24-member band directed by Debbie Benson, which is also sponsored by the NCAA and Left Hand Grange No. 9, added a bit of color to the evening with selections including "Mellow Yellow," "Devil With the Blue Dress," "A Whiter Shade of Pale," and "Pictures at an Exhibition."

The winning entry, as determined by judges Mary Williams of Mary Williams Fine Arts in Boulder, Alyson Bell of Tool Studios in Niwot, and painter and classic illustrator Lisa Rivard of Niwot, was "Summer Light" by Scott Roebuck. Roebuck was on hand to accept the award, and his art, which featured Left Hand Grange No. 9, will adorn wine bottles available for purchase at Niwot Liquors. Prints and stationery featuring the winning artwork are available at Osmosis.

Roebuck thanked the NCAA for putting on the contest. Other award winners included "Giddyup Niwot!" by Bill Enyart in second place, depicting the draft horses often seen in Niwot parades, and "Poet Farm" by Eileen Dolbeare, featuring the Oxford Road farm owned by the late Stuart and Josie Poet.

The People's Choice winner, as determined by the 60 ballots cast at local businesses displaying the art, was Niwot Meadow Farm co-owner Jeff Server's photograph, "Old Oak," featuring the Niwot coffee shop of the same name.

In addition to the traditional award categories, the NCAA announced, "This year, the judges added a new category, :For the Love of Niwot," and the winner was "How Niwot Works," by Anne Postle. Her painting featured the band performing at a concert April 1, at which the NCAA announced an effort to purchase a sculpture in the Niwot Sculpture Park by Ukrainian sculptor Egor Zigura, titled "Kore That Awakening."

All of the art entered in the contest was on display at the former Niwot Feed & Rental building across the street from Osmosis, with most pieces available for purchase. The art contest and cash awards were funded by the Niwot Local Improvement District.
