Why Not Niwot? Juried Art Show reception

Why Not Niwot? - The annual juried art show featuring art with a Niwot theme will host an artist's reception for the first time this year.

The event, sponsored by the Niwot Cultural Arts Association and Osmosis Gallery, will culminate with an awards ceremony during September's First Friday Art Walk, Sept. 2, at 6 p.m. at Osmosis Gallery, 290 Second Avenue in Niwot.

The evening will begin with music by the Niwot Community Semi-Marching Free Grange Band on the patio next to Niwot Jewelry & Gifts, starting at 6:00 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., the band will break for the awards ceremony in front of Osmosis Gallery.

Following the presentation, all of the art entries will be on display at the former Niwot Rental & Feed building across the street at 291 Second Avenue. Refreshments will be served and the public will have an opportunity to interact with the artists, whose art will be available for purchase.

First, second and third place winners, as determined by a panel of judges, will be announced at the awards ceremony, and cash prizes will be distributed to the winners. This year, the three judges, Alyson Bell, Lisa Rivard and Mary Williams, also added a new category called "For the Love of Niwot" to honor a painting that captures Niwot's sense of community.

The art entries have been on display at Niwot businesses throughout July and August, and patrons who visit all of the locations and submit a ballot will determine the People's Choice winner, with the artist also receiving a cash award. One voter's ballot from among the People's Choice voters will be selected to receive a print of the winning artwork.

Wine adorned with labels bearing a print of the winning artwork will be available for purchase. Prints of the art and cards featuring the winning art will also be on sale, with all proceeds benefiting the Niwot Cultural Arts Association.
