Niwot Eagle Scouts

Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Troop 161B held its Court of Honor ceremony to award the rank of Eagle Scout to Wyatt Boyd and Cole Robinson May 16 at the Left Hand Grange No. 9.

Boyd and Robinson are the 97th and 98th young men to be honored with the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 161 in less than 50 years since the troop's formation. Bruce Grinnell was the first to earn the rank of Eagle Scout from Troop 161, and was a member of the first graduating class at Niwot High School in 1974. The names of each Eagle Scout to receive the award are listed on plaques at the Left Hand Grange.

Scoutmaster Ryan Thompson welcomed guests, led introductions and presented rank advancements. Scoutmaster Dana Heather thanked the Left Hand Grange No.9 for its sponsorship of Troop 16. Assistant Scoutmaster Brian Kelleghan presented the new Eagle Scouts with their Eagle Knife.

Cole Robinson, Rank of Eagle Scout

Robinson has achieved 41 merit badges and his Eagle Scout project was leading a worn fence restoration project above the city of Boulder for Boulder County Parks and Open Space. He has achieved 28 non-Eagle merit badges and plans to go to college to study to be a veterinarian. He said, "Scouting has taught me many outdoor and leadership skills. I learned how to lead younger scouts and the value of perseverance."

Wyatt Boyd, Rank of Eagle Scout

Boyd has achieved 56 merit badges and his Eagle Scout project was to lead construction of a bullpen for the Holy Family High School visiting softball teams. He has achieved 43 non-Eagle merit badges and he would like to use his artistic abilities in a career designing murals and skateboards. He said, "I learned (from Scouts) that eggs freeze ... Also, that sometimes the worst, or hardest, experiences make the best memories."

In the photo with the Cole and Wyatt is Mrs Michelle Law who is the troop leader with the merit badge program. Both young men presented her with their pins for her inspirational leadership.
