Northrop Grumman receives satellites contract

On April 19, the Northrop Grumman Corporation received the U.S. Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific award to design a Relay Ground Station - Asia (RGS-A) in Guam. The award will provide a $99.6 million contract to design and develop missile-launch and missile-warning detection satellites in their Gunbarrel facility. The satellites and antennas will be constructed and deployed to Guam, to be remotely monitored and operated by the United States.

“The award will bring about 24 new jobs to this facility as part of its plan to hire 100 employees by the end of the year,” said Leigh McLeod, the principal of public relations at Grumman. The corporation is looking to hire engineering and engineering support staff to handle financial reporting, contracts, and administration.

The specific jobs needed for RGS-A:

Software Developers to expand a software centric solution exploiting and expanding hardware effectiveness.

System Engineers to merge multiple engineering solutions and disciplines into a cohesive solution maximizing technology and system utilization.

Model Based System Engineers (MBSE) to expand the digital engineering design for rapid deployment and modifications of solutions for new requirements with minimal cost.

System Integration, Validation, and Test Engineers to verify system performance.

Business Management and Contract Professionals with experience in Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) compliance.

“The advanced technologies we bring to this mission build on our proven capabilities to provide existing and future missile warning systems that help keep our nation and its allies safe,” said Aaron Dann, vice president, strategic force programs at Grumman. “The model-based open-systems architecture provides the abilities to rapidly deploy follow-on RGS systems in future locations around the world.”

“We have begun designing and developing the relay ground stations in Boulder, and anticipate the groundbreaking for the antenna system will begin by the first quarter of 2023 on the Island of Guam,” McLeod said. “In the fourth quarter of 2022, land preparation begins for installation of multiple antenna systems for the missile warning and missile tracking satellite systems.”

The Northrop Grumman Corporation recently opened up its new, 23,680-square-foot facility in Gunbarrel on March 24, 2022.
