NCA to hold annual Clean Up Day on Sept. 18

The Niwot Community Association will hold its annual Clean Up Day from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 18 in the parking lot at Niwot High School, 8989 Niwot Road, Niwot.

Any NCA member can bring two free trash loads, with additional loads costing $25 each; non-members will pay $40 a load. Loads equal a standard size pickup truck at bed level.

"We suggest that people come early, because once our collection dumpsters are full we will have to close up," event organizer John Barto told NCA members at their Sept. 1 meeting.

Items accepted for Clean Up Day include yard waste, branches and leaves; household debris, furniture and junk; mattresses and box springs, scrap metal and metals for recycling such as aluminum, steel, iron and common alloys; block Styrofoam at least two inches thick; and water-based paints (latex) and stains.

The NCA will continue to accept electronics such as computers and peripherals. There will be a $20 charge each for LCD TVs up to 50 inches and for tube televisions up to 32 inches. Larger TVs will not be accepted. Mattresses and box springs will cost $15 each.

Because of Covid-19 restrictions, the swap area has been discontinued, Barto said. "In light of this, we hope people will donate their items to other charities," Barto added.

Prohibited items

The NCA will not be able to take any refrigerators, freezers or air conditioners; motorized equipment with gas; or auto tires. Construction debris including drywall and fixtures will not be accepted, along with hazardous or hard to recycle items, batteries, oil based paints and solvents. CFL and fluorescent tubes also are prohibited.

Household garbage, animal waste and cardboard, glass and aluminum recycling is prohibited. Recycling can be taken to the recycling bins along 79th Street in Niwot.

Veterans Banners applications due

The Veterans Banner project, sponsored by the NCA and the Niwot Business Association, is also underway. The banners will be hung from mid-October to mid-November along Second Avenue and in Cottonwood Square. The cost is $100 for a new banner and $25 to rehang an existing banner. Online applications are due Sept. 15 and can be found at http://www.niwot.org/veterans.

Photos and biographical information are due Sept. 30.
