Juried art show gives Niwot a boost

Anne Postle of Osmosis Art and Architecture couldn't have been happier with the outcome of this year's Why Not Niwot? Juried Art Show. "We are so excited because this is our 10th year (and) we had 60 people turn in ballots," Postle said. The juried art show runs in conjunction with Niwot's First Friday Art Walk, and is sponsored by the Niwot Cultural Arts Association.

That number translated into 60 people visiting every business where the artwork was exhibited. "Three times that do half (of the ballots)," Postle added. While those ballots couldn't be counted, Postle was pleased that the event brought so many people into town.

As an extra incentive to finish a ballot, there was a drawing not only for a print of this year's winner, but also for prints of the four past winners.

Postle was also pleased because "this year we've sold more pieces of the entries than we have in any other year."

The winners were announced by NCAA President Biff Warren on Friday, Sept. 3, in front of Osmosis, complete with music and drum rolls by the Niwot Community Semi-Marching Free Grange Band and drummer Joe Kunches. The winners as selected by a panel of judges were:

First place: Colorado Barn 4 by Ginger Bowen

2nd Place: Osmosis at Night by Anne Postle

3rd Place: Barrel 'o Bloom by Lamya Deeb

The People's Choice winner, based on voting of everyone who turned in a ballot, was Highway 52 View by Bill Enyart

Warren thanked this year's judges, Mary Williams of Mary Williams Fine Art, Alyson Bell of Tool Studios and Lisa Rivard, a Niwot fine artist and illustrator. The event is coordinated by Postle, owner of Osmosis Gallery, and artist Michelle Henzel, both of whom serve on the NCAA Board of Directors.
