Niwot gymnastics clinches 2021 regional title

With a score of 169.375, the Niwot gymnastics team claimed first place at the Class 4A Region 3 meet, held April 15 at Overland High School in Aurora.

The Cougars were led on the day by Mia Curry, who scored 35.800 to place first in the individual all-around standings. The junior, whose home school is Silver Creek, posted top scores in floor (9.3) and bars (8.925), and took second overall in vault (8.75) and beam (8.825). Joining her as all-around competitors for the Cougars were veterans Ava Silverstein, who took third overall with 32.675 points, and Savannah Slater in 5th (32.225).

Niwot also saw top scores from freshman Grayce Gutierrez, who placed first on the beam with a score of 9.235, and senior Olivia Sroka, who was second overall in the floor exercise (8.9).

With the win, Niwot advances to the Class 4A gymnastics championships, slated for April 23-24 at Thornton High. The Cougars will be competing for their third state title in the past five seasons, while Curry will be defending her state all-around title, which she won as a sophomore in 2019.
