All Local, All The Time

Hiding in plain sight

In the nearly 24 years that I've been reporting for the Courier, I've taken quite a few odd photos. There have been photo shoots of dirt piles, potholes, with gigabytes of prairie dog pictures.

But a pole?

This is no ordinary pole though. I was looking for a photo op with a caption about waiting for spring. What could be better than the Left Hand bike racks and the blue hopscotch squares that reside just on the west side 7916 Niwot Road in Cottonwood Square?

Then I noticed it; a pole with bike tools attached by long cables. Who knew?

As to the pole's origins, a bit of investigating led me to Anne Postle of Osmosis Art and Architecture.

Postle said that back in 2017, "We installed it at the same time Lucky Pie came into Niwot as an incentive for people to ride their bikes and wander around Niwot. Since Niwot is such an outdoorsy community, it seemed like a perfect fit."

The Left Hand bike racks can also be found at 104 2nd Ave by Mogli and at Southpaw Commons.

Postle added, "It all contributes to Niwot as a biking mecca."

And remember, even though it's supposed to be subzero this weekend, spring with hopscotch and bicycles is just around the corner.
